One Thing

The phrase “one thing” appears several times in Scripture. There are five instances that stand out. Here’s a song built around them.

There’s only one thing that I really ask
that I dwell in the house of the Lord
To gaze upon his beauty forever
And inquire in the temple of my God.

There’s only one thing that I may lack
To give up what’s dear to me
To seek the things that are of heaven, O Lord,
And let nothing else matter here.

All I want to do is to tell everyone
And hope that they’ll listen to me.

There’s only one thing that I want to do
That is press on towards the prize
To the crown and reward that’s waiting for me
When I get to the other side.

These are the things God wants me to do
To dwell in the house of the Lord
To tell everyone what’s been given to me
And to seek my eternal reward
