The Ballad of the Woman Caught in Sin

“Let anyone without sin cast the first stone” — and one by one, the stones fell.

Once there was a woman living a life of sin,
With a broken heart and weary soul, she was hollow deep within.
Like many of us who’ve walked that road, she tried to fill the space,
With wine and song and borrowed love, she ran a desperate race.

Then there came a day they caught her in the act,
They dragged her before Jesus, sure they’d caught Him in their trap.
For the law of Moses said the price for such as this
Was death by stones in open streets — a fate she couldn’t miss.

Jesus said, “If anyone here is free from every sin,
Take a stone and throw it at her — let judgment now begin.”
One by one each hand dropped and the stones fell to the ground,
Every man there hung his head and walked back into town.

Jesus said, “My child, has no one condemned you?”
“No one, Lord,” she whispered, not sure what He would do.
She looked at Him with dread and fear of what her fate would be,
But Jesus smiled and said, “Sin no more; now go and live free.”

Go now in peace,
Let grace make all things new.

I am free,
I am saved,
I’m forgiven from my sin.
‘Cause Jesus Christ,
The risen Son,
Has called me by my name.

And I will live forever free,
With Jesus as my Lord,
With the Father and the Spirit,
The Holy Triune God.
I am free!
I am saved!
I’m forgiven from my sin,
And I will live forever free
With Jesus as my Lord.
