Same seed, four soils, four outcomes — which one describes your heart?
A sower went to sow his seed
He scattered it all around
Some seed fell on the hardened path
The birds ate it from the ground
That’s like the word of God we hear
But it bounces off our heads
For our hearts are filled with worldly things
And we chase those dreams instead
The seed is the word of God
Sown in waiting hearts
Let it fall on fertile ground
Let new life start
Hear it keep it let it grow
Let the Spirit flow
And a harvest we will know
Some seed fell on rocky ground
Where there wasn’t much good soil
The sun came up and scorched the plants
And their leaves began to spoil
We’re like that when we hear the word
And we’re briefly filled with it
But when the storms of trouble come
We quickly want to quit
The seed is the word of God
Sown in waiting hearts
Let it fall on fertile ground
Let new life start
Hear it keep it let it grow
Let the Spirit flow
And a harvest we will know
Some seed fell among the thorns
And the thorns grew all around
They choked the life right out of it
Till no fruit could be found
Many hearts are just like that
Too in love with worldly things
Chasing pleasure wealth and praise
That the empty world still brings
The seed is the word of God
Sown in waiting hearts
Let it fall on fertile ground
Let new life start
Hear it keep it let it grow
Let the Spirit flow

But some seed fell on soil so rich
And fertile to the core
It grew and yielded fruit galore
A harvest worth living for
If our hearts are like that soil
Open faithful and true
God will cause our lives to bear
Fruit a hundredfold
